As if Boys of Zummer Tour didn’t completely blow away Fall Out Boy fans, the infamous rock band returned for Wintour Is Coming. On March 5, Fall Out Boy performed at Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The show began with Pvris, a rock band from Lowell, Massachusetts, and lead vocalist Lyndsey Gunnulfsen started the night with an intense and powerful performance. Gunnulfsen’s voice is immersive, and time and time again, pulls the crowd in with her thoughtful lyrics and unique vocals.
Pvris’ popularity rose in 2015 after their performance on Vans Warped Tour. In 2014, the band released their acclaimed album, White Noise.
During the night, Pvris played their top hits off of White Noise, including “St. Patrick,” “White Noise,” “Fire,” “Smoke,” and “My House.” They also played their latest single, “You and I.” Gunnulfesen kept the crowd excited and ready for the acts to come. Awolnation took the stage next, surprising me with their heavy beats. Throughout their performance, the ground was shaking, and a light show completely took over the stage and the theatre. The electronic rock band’s frontman, Aaron Bruno, kept the audience engaged with loud and strong vocals, uniting both old and new fans.
The band played hit singles “I am,” “Windows,” and “Run,” which all have underlying electronic melodies. To end their set, Awolnation performed their most popular single, “Sail,” which caused nearly every person in the crowd to rise and sing along. After a curtain promptly fell from the ceiling to the floor, the well-anticipated Fall Out Boy took the stage, starting off with their hit single, “Irresistible.” The band did not stop as they performed both new and old songs one after another. Many songs were played off of their 2013 album, Save Rock and Roll, including “The Phoenix,” “Alone Together,” “Centuries,” and a heartfelt, piano performance of “Save Rock And Roll.”
Thankfully, the band played more songs off of American Beauty/American Psycho than their previous tour, making sure to include "Uma
Thurman" and "American Beauty/American Psycho." They also played the underrated songs "Fourth of July" and "Kids Aren’t Alright," striking the heart strings of die-hard fans throughout the crowd. Before performing "Kids Aren’t Alright," guitarist Pete Wentz got a little sentimental, offering the idea that “Youth controls this world” and “Don’t let anyone crush your dreams.” Aside from the past two albums, Fall Out Boy did not forget about their infamous hits "Sugar, We’re Going Down Swinging," "This ‘Aint A Scene, It’s An Arms Race," "I Don’t Care," and "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs (Thanks for the Memories)." After an hour long set, Fall Out Boy returned for a two-song encore of "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light ‘Em Up)" and "Saturday." During the former, fire light up across different points of the stage, heating the audience with a final, sizzling performance to remember. Lead vocalist Patrick Stump’s voice never fails to impress me; he puts forth so much passion into all of his songs, and I truly believe that they will always be the epitome of rock and roll.
